When is salah performed
Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master on the Day of Recompense Judgement Day. You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help. Guide us on the straight path, The path of those who You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray. Make sure to keep your back straight, your hands on your knees, and your eyes focused on the ground where you will be prostrating.
As you are rising up from the ruku position to a standing position you will bring your hands to your ears and will say:. And also make sure your forehead, nose, palms of both hands, knees, and both toes are touching the ground.
Say Allahu akbar as you rise from sujud and then sit on your left leg. Your left foot will rest on the floor while your right foot is upright. Place your hands on your knees. When you are in this position it is recommended to ask Allah for forgiveness. A simple and easy dua you can say is:. Congratulations, you have just completed one full rakah!
The first rakah of every prayer is performed with these twelve steps. When you reach the end of the second rakah you will perform the tashahud , or a step Instead of standing up after the two sujud, this time around you will sit on your legs and knees again. You will raise your right index finger and say:. All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. In Islamic countries, the public call to prayer from the mosques sets the rhythm of the day for the entire population, including non-Muslims.
The prayer ritual, which is over years old, is repeated five times a day by hundreds of millions of people all round the world. Carrying it out is not only highly spiritual, but connects each Muslim to all others around the world, and to all those who have uttered the same words and made the same movements at different times in Islamic history. Prayer for a Muslim involves uniting mind, soul, and body in worship; so a Muslim carrying out these prayers will perform a whole series of set movements that go with the words of the prayer.
Muslims make sure that they are in the right frame of mind before they pray; they put aside all everyday cares and thoughts so that they can concentrate exclusively on God. If a Muslim prays without the right attitude of mind, it as if they hadn't bothered to pray at all. Muslims pray because God has told them that they are to do this, and because they believe that they obtain great benefit in doing so. In the ritual prayers each individual Muslim is in direct contact with Allah.
There is no need of a priest as an intermediary. While there is a prayer leader in the mosque - the imam - they are not a priest, simply a person who knows a great deal about Islam.
Praying together in a congregation helps Muslims to realise that all humanity is one, and all are equal in the sight of Allah. Muslims must be clean before they pray. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and on the righteous servants of Allah'. Then, keeping your hands resting on your knees, raise your right index finger while clasping the other fingers of your right hand. Lower your right index finger, so both your palms are resting on your knees again.
If not, please skip to step Truly You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.
Then repeat these words while turning your head over your left shoulder. They mean, 'May peace, the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you'.
